The AWFF wants to support, encourage and celebrate female storytellers by giving them a platform to showcase their talent both in front and behind the camera. We want to put women front and centre in an industry traditionally dominated by men.
In 2019, Wonder Woman shattered box office records, earning more than $223 million worldwide its opening weekend — the highest grossing film directed by a woman.
This is just the beginning.
One of the most unique aspects of our competition is that three of the five key creatives (Writer, Director, Producer, DOP and Editor) for every film must be female and the film must pass the Bechdel Test. Films must not exceed 15 minutes. Men are not excluded from being involved in AWFF, they just need to be willing to work with women!
In order to pass the Bechdel Test a film must meet the following three criteria:
(1) it has to have at least two women in it;
(2) who talk to each other;
(3) about something besides a man.
